IAMG Vistelius Award

Dr Gregoire Mariethoz of the CVEN hydrology group in the School’s Water Research Centre has been selected by the International Association for Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG) as the winner of the 2013 Andrei Borisovich Vistelius Research Award. This is awarded biennially to a young scientist for promising contributions in research in the application of mathematics or informatics in any field of the earth sciences.  Each recipient of the Andrei Borisovich Vistelius Research Award is a keynote speaker at the next IAMG conference or International Geological Congress (IGC), which in 2013 will be held in Madrid, Spain, 2-6 September. Gregoire’s research interests include geostatistics applied to surface and subsurface problems, uncertainty modelling, stochastic hydrogeology, paleoclimate data analysis, high-order statistics, characterization of complex spatial structures, subsurface flow and transport modelling, inverse problems, hydrology, processing of remote sensing and climatic data, and parallel computing.
