2005 - Raj Mehrotra
Project description
2002 – 2005
Raj was Ashish's 3rd PhD student, supervised by him and his senior colleague Ian Cordery. Raj's PhD was one of the first on developing a downscaling model to assess changes in rainfall in a warmer climate.
After the PhD, Raj became a fellow colleague at UNSW, but the papers that made up his PhD thesis were:
- Mehrotra, R. and A. Sharma (2005). "A nonparametric nonhomogeneous hidden Markov model for downscaling of multisite daily rainfall occurrences - art. no. D16108." Journal of Geophysical Research-Atmospheres 110(D16): 16108-16108.
- Mehrotra, R. and A. Sharma (2006). "Conditional resampling of hydrologic time series using multiple predictor variables: A k-nearest neighbour approach." Advances in Water Resources 29: 987-999.
- Mehrotra, R. and A. Sharma (2006). "A nonparametric stochastic downscaling framework for daily rainfall at multiple locations." Journal of Geophysical Research-Atmospheres 111(D15101): doi:10.1029/2005JD006637.
- Mehrotra, R., A. Sharma, I. Cordery. (2004). "Comparison of two approaches for downscaling synoptic atmospheric patterns to multisite precipitation occurrence - art. no. D14107." Journal of Geophysical Research-Atmospheres 109(D14): 14107-14107.
- Mehrotra, R., R. Srikanthan, A. Sharma. (2006). "A comparison of three stochastic multi-site precipitation occurrence generators." Journal of Hydrology 331: 280-292.
These papers form the basis for much of the research on stochastic downscaling our group has since been involved in.
